The Color Run - Try something new!

Stumbling upon this event was definitely one of the best things I've ever done! I remember my friend, Daisy, telling me about an advert she'd seen on television when people run in a marathon whilst getting paint thrown all over them. The idea at first didn't seem too appealing, running and sweating and paint. But then we
researched it further, watched some YouTube videos and was instantly mesmerized by how happy every single person seemed! Well, they do call it the 'happiest 5k on the planet'!

So basically, this is a 5K run in which you go through a number of segments where people with bottles and barrels of coloured powder paint are waiting to spray you colours of the rainbow! The run, for me, did not seem as long as three miles in the slightest simply because when you pass one coloured segment, between the admiring of everyone's newly painted selves and wanting to get to the next colour, you're forgetting that this is a run.

This event is literally for everyone! When I was there a month or so ago, there were teens, adults, babies in prams, children on their father's shoulders, just everyone was there! I did it in Manchester, UK and I didn't expect there to be so many people! This was the first time they'd brought the Color Run to the UK so that means that I was involved in the first ever Color Run in Manchester and the second EVER in the UK!

From left to right there's Astacia, Regan, Myself, Daisy and Heather!

It was one of the greatest experiences of my life and me and my friends plan to make it a yearly thing due to the fact that some of us are leaving to go to college whereas others are staying for sixth form which inevitably means less time together apposed to before the summer when we spent every single day together throughout school.

Honestly, if you're looking for something new and fun to try next year I definitely recommend the Color Run. Get your friends or family involved and you even get to pick a team name and have your very own shirt! *fist pump*

There was a lovely sense of community and at the end, there's a massive festival kind of thing where people perform, colour explosions are happening every 10 minutes and everyone's dancing and laughing! One of the best days of my life, no doubt!

A to Z Survey

Never thought of doing a survey on here until I saw Perpetual Page Turner's that she created herself. Since I'm not doing much until Friday, I thought why not have a go at this! It was either stare at my twitter interactions, stalk facebook or this. I'd much prefer to do this... LET'S DO IT!
Oh and I included some relevant gifs ooooooo...

Author you've read the most books from:

Rachel Caine; She's the author that got me interested in vampire/paranormal books. I still adore her writing now.

Best sequel ever:
100% Onyx by Jennifer L. Armentrout! I really liked the first book in this series but Onyx was my favourite out of the two. Oh and Daemon!

Currently reading:
The Host by Stephenie Meyer. Then I shall watch the movie straight after!

Drink of choice while reading:
If I'm reading during the day; Coke. *Happiness* If it's at night/during the evening; Tea.

E-reader or physical book?
Physical books all the way! I love the feeling of holding an actual book whilst laying propped up in bed and although I do read ebooks sometimes, I way prefer actual books. I like how they smell (weird?) and the fact I can add it to my collection on my shelf when I'm done, like a trophy of what I've read throughout the years!
Me:

Fictional character you probably would have actually dated in High School:

Stiles from Teen Wolf (thats a fictional character right?) Oh my, Stiles is that guy that girls bypass because he's the nice-always-in-the-friendzone boy who I would have been a total sucker for.Ohhhh, look at him. Damn it.

Glad you gave this book a chance:

Awakened by Brenda K. Davies. Definitely recommending this book to paranormal lovers!

Hidden gem book:

Wallbanger by Alice Clayton. Next door neighbor romance which is highly recommended. The flirting, the banter, the love-hate relationship, it's all there!

Important moment in your reading life:

Realising that since I go through books so quickly and since I generally don't have a social life, I should be doing something productive with what I'm good at; reading and giving opinions. And this blog was born!

Just finished:

Onyx by Jennifer L. Armentrout.

Kind of books you wont read:

BDSM, I read Fifty Shades of Grey purely out of interest (as most of us did) and it's definitely not my thing. Some people may enjoy reading about that kind of stuff but it's not for me, Christian Grey, although I imagined him to be yummy, was frustrating to me as a character and- No, I prefer the sappy kind of romance, no whips attached.
Longest book you've read:
Not one hundred percent sure but I think it's Onyx, by Jennifer L. Armentrout, so far!

Major book hangover because of:
Onyx (mentioned for the 16838564th time today), because I'm waiting for the third book to arrive!!!

Number of bookcases you own:

None at the moment *wah*. I'm having to keep all my books in my wardrobe since I'm completely re-doing my bedroom!

One book you have read multiple times:

Beautiful Disaster by Jamie Mcguire.

Preferred place to read:
My bed, just before I go to sleep or just after I've woken up.

Quote that inspires you/gives you all the feels from a book you've read:
"You don't forget the face of the person who was your last hope." - Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
R
eading regret:
Not reading The Vampire Diaries books before watching the tv show, I hear they're much better! Maybe I will read them now I've stopped watching it.
Series you started and need to finish:
The Morganville Vampire series, not entirely sure if they're all out now but I'm buying more on Friday so...

Three of your all-time favourite books:

The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde, The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks and Soul Screamers, My Soul To Take by Rachel Vincent. Uh make it into a movie already!!

Unapologetic fangirl for:

Jennifer L. Armentrout. YOU FREAKING GENIUS I LOVE YOU...r books.

Very excited for this release more than all the others:

The fifth book in the Lux series to be written and published, that's the last one right? THEN I CAN MARATHON THAT SHIT.
W
orst bookish habit:
I have to be chewing on something when I read, like I'll pick up a pen, straw, bottle etc and just chew on it as I read. It's a weird habit that I can't seem to shake!

X
marks the spot: Start at the top left of your shelf and pick the 27th book:
(As said before) I do not have shelves put up yet due to re-doing my room so I shall use my iBooks shelf; The 27th book is Wicked Games by Jessica Clare.

Y
our latest book purchase:
Kiss of Fire by Rebecca Ethington which I have yet to start!
ZZZ-snatcher book:

The last book that kept me up way too late was Onyx by Jennifer L. Armentrout, I just could not put it down no matter how much my body was like "you need sleep".

DONE! Now it's your turn!

I am definitely looking for suggestions, I review books or movies, preferably new ones so if anyone knows of any, just leave a comment! Otherwise you can tweet me (and follow me *hint hint*) at @Daydreamreviews. I'm happy to chat or take suggestions!

Paranormal Pick Ups

Soul Screamers, My Soul To Take by Rachel Vincent
"Something is wrong with Kaylee Cavanaugh... She can sense when someone near her is about to die. And when that happens, a force beyond her completely compels her to scream bloody murder. Literally. When classmates start dropping dead for no apparent reason, and only Kaylee knows who'll be next, she realises that finding a boyfriend is the least of her worries!"

This book is definitely the first one I thought of when I decided to do a paranormal recommendation post. I'm not entirely sure if the 'beings' involved in this series are classed as paranormal, but let's just say it's definitely more supernatural than human.

Kaylee Cavanaugh seems like any normal teenager at the beginning of the book but there is definitely no waiting around for the action to begin. Within the first chapter, Kaylee's confusing secrets are unraveling and if, like myself, you hate having to read the first half of a book to get to the good stuff then this book certainly will not disappoint!

Rachel Vincent seems to have a knack for completely drawing you into the story, as if you're truly in said story. For me, reading is a distraction I use when I want to take a break from reality, which is apparently always, so finding a read that can completely pull me into the book's world is a book I want to read.

Kaylee seemed like most teenage girls. She just wanted to get through school and enjoy the fact that the hottest guy in school has taken an interest in her but when you have an ability such as Kaylee's, it's pretty hard to priorities school and cute guys.
Nash is definitely my favourite character in this book, simply because he is just written so perfectly, the kind of guy a father wants for their daughter. He completely goes against the whole hot guy = jerk cliche. He also seems to know a whole lot more about Kaylee's 'gift' than she does.

A world full of the unknown, sweetheart hotties and beautiful lullabies that will keep you enticed and interested throughout 1000+ pages.

P.S, I think the first photo is what the book cover originally was, and the second, what it is being published as now. (Excuse me if I'm wrong) Nonetheless, I definitely prefer the first cover! What about you guys?

Awakened by Brenda K. Davies
"Traumatized by her past, and struggling to move on from it, Sera has spent the past three years of college hiding herself from the world and content to stay that way. A chance encounter with Liam shatters her sheltered world, leaving her stunned and shaken by the strange feelings and emotions he arises in her, feelings she never thought she would experience and that frighten her in their intensity. Habouring a dark and deadly secret of his own, Liam knows that he should stay away from Sera; that he will only bring her more hurt, but he is irresistibly drawn to her and unable to deny himself the pleasure that only she can bring to him. But when their pasts collide with their present, and Liam's true nature is revealed, will their love for each other be enough, or will they be torn apart forever?"

I'm ever so slightly ashamed to say that it was originally the cover that caught my attention, even before I had read what it was about. *Slaps wrist* I know you should never judge a book by it's cover but I mean, look at it. Mystery and romance just oozed from the models' embrace and I instantly read the blurb.

A typical vampire-human love story. The doomed relationship, the knowledge that he needs to stay away yet cannot resist. The doe-eyed innocent, quiet girl who catches the player's eye. Shamelessly, everything I love in a paranormal romance and although the concept is a little cliched, the twists and turns the couple have to go through to stay together are what keeps this story alive and interesting.

After the looming shadow that Twilight cast over vampire based books/movies, I was very hesitant to read this as it seemed all too familiar. However, this story is a burst of fresh air in terms of vampire-human romance and I am so glad I took the time to really get into this book. There was a sense of originality that came from within this that I really enjoyed, simply because all other vampire books have given me the constant feeling of deja vu. Just everything about this book, upon reading what it was about, screamed TYPICAL which is why I was so happily surprised!

Sera as a character is seemingly content with being in the background whereas Liam is the typical player who girls hover around like a moth to a flame, twirling their bottle-blonde locks around their finger whilst batting their long, false lashes to gain a second of attention. Now, the only thing I didn't like towards the middle of the book was that Sera seems to lose a part of her character after succumbing to Liam's easy charm. Then again, she definitely regains that part later on, but as the female lead character, I think that keeping her character true and strong is vital.

I say, definitely pick up this book if your guilty pleasures are cheesy romances with a little dash of paranormal. It wont disappoint!

Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout

(Lux #1) Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout
"When 17 year old Katy Swartz moved to West Virginia right before her senior year, she'd pretty much resigned herself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring, but then she spotted her hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up... until he opened his mouth.
Daemon Black is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. It's hate at first sight, but when a stranger attacks her and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something... unexpected happens. The hot guy next door? He's an alien. Turns out that Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities and Katy is caught in the crosshairs. Daemon's touch has lit her up like the Vegas Strip and the only way she's getting out of this alive is by sticking close to him until her alien mojo fades. That is if she doesn't kill him first."

Hands down, this book was honestly one of the most intriguing books I have ever read. I got through the 1000+ paged book in less than 2 days and I loved every second of it. I've never come across a book with aliens as the paranormal beings. Sure I've read about vampires, werewolves and even banshees but when I happened to come across this book, the whole concept interested me.

Katy, as the main female character, was made to be so relatable to teenage girls everywhere. I mean, the girl's best friend is her laptop which I'm pretty sure is the case for most. Even myself. -slaps wrist-
Daemon is the hot badass who can be a complete meanie to Katy at times, but then the loveliest guy to her. He's impossible to keep up with but impossible to ignore and you just cannot help but love him.

Jennifer L. Armentrout has managed to create a completely new, entirely intriguing world where time stands still at the flick of a wrist, people can light up like a bulb and everyone who's alien looks like they've just stepped off the runway. Each character in this first book, no matter big or small, is described so perfectly that it gives you the just enough to make up an image in your mind, but not so much that you can't fill in the gaps with your own choices. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes a break from the real world to indulge in a fantasy one. Even if you're not really into paranormal reads, go and give this one a shot. If the hot aliens don't do it for you then the building tension of Katy and Daemon definitely will.

I am now on the third chapter of the second book, Onyx. I literally bought it straight after reading the first simply because of the way the author ends it. Already in this second book, the heat is building and growing and I cannot wait to see what happens with Katy and Daemon, I mean it's inevitable what will eventually happen but the thing about this author, is that she manages to throw in enough twists to keep it interesting but not so many that there's a lot of loose ends, and that's what keeps the first book going. It's the mixture between lust and thrill that I adore.

Oh! And for those who do read it and absolutely love it like I did, there's some great news! *drumroll*

THERE WILL BE A MOVIE!

Yep, Obsidian is coming to the big screen and I am so happy! I'm sending Jennifer all of the hope I have in me because I really want this movie to showcase how good the book was. I pray that they do not stray too far from the book as many have done before because I don't see what could make this any better!
For more information on the Obsidian movie, click here; http://www.jenniferarmentrout.com/obsidian-heads-to-the-big-screen/

P.S, there are some very relatable gifs on the post;)

I hope you enjoyed my very first review and please check this book out. You can get it anywhere really but for iPhone users, I recommend downloading it on the 'iBooks' app. I think it's currently FREE! For everyone else, you can buy it on amazon or any website of the sort.
